Lost my Newsreader in Outlook 2003

A

Adam Orden

Installed Outlook 2003; everything went fine.
Added the newsreader to the standard toolbar...ie. Go>>News by clicking
on the toolbars ...customize...go...news.
this went fine.
Shutdown my computer..brought it home.
Opened up outlook
NO newsreader !!
And it's nowwhere to be found on the customize..commands menu. !!!

I tried detect/ and repair.
I tried resetting all toolbars.

Nothing works.

Before I completely remove Office 2003 and reinstall I hope someone
might have a solution.

Regards,
Adam

Close Outlook - find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. Reopen Outlook.

I had it once too.

On the next boot clicking on it (I had a button on the standard tools in the beta version) brought up a folder in explorer - I don't
remember the folder, but it sure was not OE news. I deleted the button, now all is gone.

Tried your tip - still no news anywhere in Outlook. Tried a repair install, still no go.

Just what program does it call?

Try making OE the default news reader under Control Panel->Internet
Options->Programs tab. Please report back if this works.

Right after dropping my message I found the /outnews switch, then put OE with it in my quick launch. But, now your suggestion put
it back in my "Go" menu and on the "Standard Buttons".

Thanks a whole bunch - it is the little things. <g>

I'm about to do a complete new fresh install of the whole system - lots of beta stuff to clean out.

Oh, did I say thank you? Well...

Thank you!

I went to control panel | inyrtnry options | Programs and
the only options my XP Pro is giving me is outlook
express, which I do not want. I am also running Office
Pro Outlook 2003. When I reloaded Office I refound the
news button there but cannot open it in Outlook 2003. No
matter what I do, Outlook Express sticks its nose in. and
Yes, I am a different person.
Thanks again for any help anyone can offer.

Outlook calls OE as it's newsreader - you can't get away from that.

Surely if you use Outlook then the default Newsreader should be Outlook not
OE?

And pray tell, where did you find the / outnews switch,
maybe i'll try that. Nothing else seems to work.
