Outlook's Newsreader disappeared

I have just gotten Office 2003 installed on my pc at work. In the 2000
version of Outlook I was able to view the discussion groups, but unable to
post. That was okay. When I am at work I used the discussion group website to
view and post.

In this new version 2003, (new to the office) I found a Help article that
explained how to set up the Newsreader from within Outlook. I went to the
View, Toolbars,Standard, customize, and chose the Go category, and selected
the News menu item, dragged and dropped it on the Go menu. I clicked on the
new menu item, it opened the Newsreader and prompted me to use Outlook as the
default newsreader and I said Yes.

It actually gathered the list of discussion groups I had already subscribed
to in the older version, and I was able to view an earlier post I had put out
there. I closed the Newsreader.

Later in the day, I wanted to view the discussion group again, so I go to
the Go menu and the News item is GONE. I return to the toolbar customize
screen and the News item is no longer listed!!! Where did it go??? Has this
happened to anyone?

Any idea how to get it back in the Tools-customize items? I did several
"restore toolbars" from inside the customize screen, but it did not retrieve
the News item.

Thanks, Donna

Probably the most asked and answered question in these newsgroups. Search

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.
