Lost Favorites

R

Ray

I have cross posted in hopes that someone will have the answer.

In trying to delete (with no success) some persistent listings in the
Favorites folder in the Start column, I goofed and deleted the Favorites and
its icon. I have put a shortcut in the upper half of the column but would
like to get the original listing back in place.
I have been all over MS Knowledge base, about six different XP troubleshooting
sites and find no reference to replacing the Favorites entry.
I tried reinstalling XP Pro from the CD but it will not accept the product
serial number which is listed on the CD envelope. It is not an OEM install
but came with the PC when I bought it in June. I used the product number
finder and get the same number as listed on the envelope so I must be using
the correct number.

Also when I goofed I lost the ALL PROGRAMS icon too. Don't ask how - I'm old
and feeble minded and getting feebler.

If by start column you mean the start menu then read the
next paragraph if not stop now.

Right click the start bar and choose properties. In the
dialog box click the start menu tab and then choose
customize
Click the advanced tab and tick off the favorites box if
it already isnt
