I have Windows XP and Outlook Express 6. Today, when I
was through viewing email and tried to close my Outlook
Express program... everything "hung up"... wouldn't
close. The "program not responding" box came up and I
finally clicked "end now". I restarted my computer and
when I went back to Outlook Express ... ALL EMAIL IN MY
INBOX WAS GONE!!!!!!

Is there a possibility that it is somewhere in my XP,
somewhere on my hard drive, anywhere at all???

Is there any way to recover this missing email???

Help! Please???

Chances are that they're gone (backing up is important). Previously Posted

OLEXP: Outlook Express E-Mail Messages Are Missing from the Inbox Folder

Uncheck the "Compact Messages In The Background" option in Outlook
Express, which alleviates the problem.

Alternatively you can disable email scan, internet filter and download
scan in McAfee virus scanner, leaving only system scan (which leaves
mailboxes alone) working.

To stop this issue from occurring, download and apply the patch
CR7560.exe

nternetfilter/CR7560.exe

Aways reply to the original thread, GL.

Start here: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone.

DBXtract
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

DBXtend
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtend/Default.aspx

Inbox [1].dbx is most likely the new, empty one, Inbox.dbx the damaged one.
I would close OE and then Move both Inbox.dbx and Inbox [1].dbx to another
Windows (not OE) folder and run DBXtract/DBXtend on the moved files. (A
new, empty Inbox.dbx will be created when you next open OE.)

If either application successfully recovers any messages, count yourself
fortunate. Recovered messages may be dragged into an open OE folder, but...

1. Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

2. Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and can cause this problem.

3. Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders whilst "working
offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Try posting this in a relevant newgroup. This one is for the XP OS.
Bye bye now.
