It's possible that the dialogs are opening off-screen somewhere. Try
this:

- Try to open the dialog.
- When you think it's open (because typing in the document doesn't
work), press the Alt key and the spacebar together, then release them.
(This opens the dialog's control menu.)
- Press and release the M key. (This chooses the Move command on the
control menu.)
- Press the down arrow key and hold it down for a little while -- if
the dialog comes into view, stop. If it doesn't appear, then press the
Esc key twice to dismiss the (invisible) dialog and go on to the next
step.
- If the dialog is off screen, the failure of the previous step
indicated that it isn't above the screen, so let's assume that it's to
the left of the screen. Repeat the Alt+spacebar, repeat the M key,
then press and hold the right arrow key. If it doesn't work, press the
Esc key twice and go on to the next step.
- Repeat the previous step, but this time use the up arrow key.
- If necessary, finally try the left arrow key.

If you still can't find the dialog, remember that pressing Esc will
always get rid of the dialog even if it's invisible, so you aren't
locked out.
