Lost Contacts Vista Mail

Gary,
Thank you so much for hanging in there with me through this mess. I will
certainly research Windows Live Mail. This is the first I have ever heard of
Windows Live Mail and it may certainly be an option.

One more question for you. My Dell Inspiron 1525 is only about 8 months
old. Should I go to Dell if I want to pursue this? Or do you think it is a
Microsoft issue? What would you do from here if you were me?

I guess I'll just give up on retrieving my current Contact list that just
disappeared.....................

Thanks again!

You can try Dell's tech support, but I doubt they will help you.
They'll say it is a Microsoft problem. It certainly does not look
like a hardware problem.

If you do upgrade to Windows Live Mail, save that CSV contacts file
because Windows Live Mail Contacts may be able to import it.

Part of Mystery Solved! I was contemplating contacting Microsoft Vista
support when I made a discovery! I right clicked on the Contacts folder and
clicked properties. There is a LOCATION tab that showed the Hierarchy of
Manilla Folders going down 4 levels to the Blue Contacts folder. I changed
it to C:\Users\{Username}\Contacts and the problem went away. From there I
could delete the contacts and then delete the extra Manilla Folders. Then,
when I imported the .WAB file from Outlook Express, the addresses came across
fine and in the correct folder (without the Extra Manilla Folders)! YYIIPPEE
I have no clue as to how that hierarchy got changed, but I suppose stranger
things have happened.

Wanted to close the loop in case someone else ran into the same situation.
Thanks again for all of your help and support!

You're very welcome. Thanks for reporting back.
It is a mystery as to how that "Location" parameter got changed.
I've never run across that before.

Did you look in the location where the Contacts folder should
have been?
C:\Users\username\Contacts.

Go to that folder on your hard drive and right-click on it.
Select Properties, Location. Correct the location if necessary
to reflect the C:\Users\{username}\Contacts location.
