Folders in address book

In my OLD XP PC, I used Outlook Express sucessfully for my e-mail. It
contained an address book that had many addresses that were seperated into
several folders. When I exported my contacts from my OLD XP PC Address book
to my NEW VISTA PC, they came over WITHOUT the folders! WHY? As a result, I
then created several folders in my NEW VISTA PC address book, copying the
addresses into their respective folders. However, when I went to Create an
e-mail and selected the address book to get an address from one of the
folders, THE FOLDERS DO NOT APPEAR - just an alphabetical listing of all the
contancts! Why did the folders not appear? (When i returned to the address
book, the folders appear!)

You can create folders for the contacts, but Windows Mail will not show
them when you click on To:, CC: or BCC:

However, you can do it bassackwards if you have folders... open your
Contacts folder, open your sub-folder, select your recipient(s),
right-click, select Action - Send Email

and, you can create Groups, which are mail lists of selected contacts.

It appears that Microsoft has a glitch in their software! Why would you
create folders in an address book if they were not where you can use them!
Can this annomily be brought to thier attention?

I tried what you suggested and it works if you want to send an e-mail to ONE
person. If you want to sent it to more than one it creates a second e-mail.
Bummer!!

Why will they not fix this??

Groups will not do the job for me!

For Example: I play tennis in a group of about 30 men. We play three times
per week. Each player plays with differnt players each time he plays. If you
see that you cannot play on a specific day, it is your reponsibility to
arrange for a substitute player. It is also your responsibility to notify the
other three members who are scheduled to play with you who the substitute
will be.

In the above case, a seperate group would have to be created each time. When
I had XP, all thirty players were in a seperate folder. When I needed to
send and e-mail to the other designated players scheduled to play with me, I
just had to open the folder, select the players I wanted to send a e-mail to
and send it! It was easy!

Boy, do I wish I had XP again!

Try Thunderbird... you can create "Lists" in the address book, then open
each list, and select which of the contacts you want..

Or try the newer Windows Live Mail beta, it has "Categories", which works
like T-bird's "Lists".
