Lost ability to establish new connection

Hi, I upgraded my motherboard, CPU, and memory so I had to do a repair installation with XP Pro. The board I had and the new one both have LAN on board. My DSL server uses PPPoE to connect me. Before I had one LAN always open and a PPPoE connection which I clicked on to reach my ISP. I've been unable to connect that way with the new connection wizard because the only choice that isn't greyed out now is connect via a LAN that is always connected to the internet. It's not connected. I can't repair it and it fails when trying network diagnostics. How can I create a connection if the wizard doesn't provide me the option I need? Thanks!

This is the problem, caused by the repair install:

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP

The fix is to re-apply SP1.
