Windows XP Home Ed. Service Pack 2 Stops Responding after PPPoE Connection

A

Adair MacLean

I recently reinstalled Win. XP Home Ed., everything was working fine
untill I installed SP2.
After I installed SP2, when I connect to the internet using PPPoE, my
computer stops responding. It connects alright, and the icon appears in the
notification area
telling me that it is connected, but when I try to open Outlook Express or
Internet Explorer, or any files or folders, the mouse pointer turns to an
hour glass for a couple of seconds then Windows stops responding. I can move
the mouse pointer
but when I click on something; nothing happens. Clicking on start-turn off
computer-restart doesn't work so i must turn the computer off by pressing
the power button.
This happen nine out of ten times I reboot. But sometime it connects with no
problems. Then the next time I reboot and connect, Windows stops responding.

Some info and specks:

I created my internet connection using the new connection wizard.
The connection worked fine in SP1.
My ISP uses WAN Miniport (PPPoE).
My LAN card is a Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Controller intergrated on an
ASUS P4P800-SE mother board
with the very latest BIOS.
