Losing mail account POP3 and SMTP settings

Not an Outlook issue per se. This is likely due to your antivirus software
(or antispam software if you have some installed). Presuming the former,
check with the AV vendor to see if they have a newer version that will
support mail scanning in a more sophisticated manner, or get another product
that does.

Some people recommend disabling mail scanning entirely (the rationale being
that the file-level protection of your AV software will suffice), but I
don't agree as I think it's best to have as many layers of security in place
as possible.

You have an antivirus, antispam, or personal firewall application installed
that is responsible for scanning messages as the are downloaded. This
program will change the POP/SMTP settings in order to complete this scan.
(Localhost is your machine, so the program acts as an intermediary between
OE/Outlook and your ISPs mail server.)

You would have to disable the option in your 3rd party program in order to
get the settings to stick.

Hi,
I am using a new computer with XP and have recently set up Outlook on this
machine. I set up my mail server information to have page.aiserv.net as my
POP3 and my SMTP (as per instructions from my ISP).

Each time I reboot the computer, the POP3 information is changed to
'localhost' and my incoming mail server account name is changed from the
correct value to one which prepends 'localhost/'.

I tried deleting the internet account information entry and starting from
scratch, but the same thing happens. In addition to that, my password to
login to the mail server is not remembered when I check the box. I can live
with that but having to change the connection properties everytime I go to
check mail is unbearable.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.
