Losing IP address lease

Our DSL internet access is interupted/lost because our
Linksys Router(DHCP server) is occasionally denying the
IP address lease(the DHCP server is sending a DHCPNACK
message). I have exhausted the Linksys tech. support
suggestions. Do I need to get a new router?

Can you clarify?

What is handling DHCP control? The Linksys router? A
Windows 2003 Server?

Or do you mean the router is denying the incoming
connection from your DSL modem to the router when it
issues a new DHCP address?

Thanks for your interest. I would assume that the
Linksys Router is handling DHCP control, but how do I
check this out to know for sure? Do you know of any way
to isolate where the IP address lease request is being
denied? Thanks for your help. RC Henkel

Alright. If you're not sure who the DHCP server is, how do you know the
request is being denied? Did you attach a sniffer to the network? Was it an
error code of some kind in the router log? If so, where there any other
telltale signs in the log?

One thing you might want to try is starting your connection, then repeatedly
requesting a new IP address from your DHCP server (wherever it is).

You can do that by opening a command prompt then typing:

ipconfig /release all
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /release all
ipconfig /renew
etc.
etc.
etc.

How many times did it not renew properly? Are you able to log in a certain
number of times before it fails? Does it time out waiting for a response?
Does it get some kind of authentication error? Does it miss one (or two)
then come back?

What I'm hoping to do is remove some of the variability and see at what
point the failure becomes consistent. Does that make sense?

I'm assuming Linksys had you run through the standard stuff: Update the
router bios, latest drivers for your NIC, etc.

Oh... are you on a wireless or wired connection?
