Description:
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the
DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 000129D1XXXX. The
following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to
try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

These occur on the unit connected to the first port (main unit), other units
2,3,4 no errors listed.
This started after changing from a D-Link 604 router 4 port switch to the
Linksys router.

All units see each other, operate on and off line without problem.
The one time a day "error and warning" seem to have no effect.

Have Windows XP Home SP2 (all updates), on all units.
Software firewall on each unit.
Toshiba PCX 1100 cable modem.
Linksys BEFSR41 cable-dsl router - 4 port switch.

Would appreciate information concerning this matter.
Thank You.

Messages about semaphore timeouts are frequently caused by LSP / Winsock
corruption.

Beyond that, I'd be looking at the DHCP log on the router, and seeing if the
router actually got the DHCP request, and if so, did it deny the request? You
do have logging enabled, I hope?

Hello,
DHCP is enabled
Auto config is enabled.
Address listing are proper.
I did find that the ISP has changed the address assignment from once a week
to every 24 hours.
My startup time is close to the time they assign new addresses. Would this
cause the "(one time aday)" error message to appear?
I shut down the system, last PM, and started up without any error showing.
This AM same error appeared upon startup.
Rebooted, no error showed on the reboot.

Thank you for your interest and reply.

Is your new Router set up as a DHCP server (ie, IT assigns all the IP
Addresses on your network?)

If so, you should make sure that Windows isn't trying to give the network
card a FIXED IP address, instead is receiving one from the DHCP router.

If your Router, has DHCP enabled, what address should it give to the first
machine?

Go into Command (Run>CMD) then type in IPCONFIG /ALL (Important space
between ...FIG and /ALL)

What IP Address does it say your network card has?

Hello,
The "error" has stopped. Nothing I did, possible a ISP change. From renewing
lease once a week to renewing everyday.
The "warning" continues, once a night at the same time.
Thank you for the links, will pursue.
take care.
