Losing broadband kills personal server

If I am using a personal server when I lose my broadband connection, the
personal server is killed.

Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

I suppose logging off from the broadband might help, but everyone likes
browsing the internet :)

What do you mean by a "personal server"? Please give as much
information as possible to help other people understand the problem.

I use WinXP Home, 2.4GHz, 768MB RAM, 6.5GB free space.

The personal server is Tomcat. I'm beta testing a "web" application where
the server is on my own machine. I access using:

http://localhost:8080/application_name

The server is started in a DOS console using a BAT file. When I lose the
broadband connection, even this DOS console disappears.

When the broadband connection is restored, I restart the server and
everything works till the next broadband loss.

Please don't think I'm a techie. I'm just testing the GUI.
