Looping with 615 on new def updates + more problems

There seems to be no way to update the def. files again. I have the 615 update and have cleared all temp files, restarted MSAS. Still not going past 5735 def. files. Looks like another problem in the beta. Also with MSAS 615 installed I am unable to update Adaware SE def files. I uninstalled MSAS, deleted the folder, cleaned the registry of all references to MSAS and did a perfect Adaware update. I reinstalled MSAS 615 and was still not able to update the def files for MSAS. Tried to do a manual update to Adaware, failed to contact server. Cleared the temp files again and then shut down for about 5 minutes. On log in my anti-virus ( Trend-Micro) crashed and wouldn't restart. My firewall ( Sygate) shutdown and would not restart. I restarted the computer and once again my anti-virus failed to load and so did firewall. I removed MSAS and cleaned all traces from registry. I then restarted and no problems with anti-virus or firewall. Then to put it to the test I reinstalled 615, didn't try a def update, then booted down and left unpowered for 30 minutes. On restart the anti-virus and firewall once again failed to load.

MSAS has now been removed from my computer. No more beta testing of what is turning out to be a major problem on my computer. I have better anti-spyware protection already running without all the problems. Good luck MS, you will need it. When and if it ever comes out of beta and is in public release I might try it again, but right now I need a firewall ( not the so called "firewall" that comes with XP SP2) and an anti-virus running. And don't start with the CareOne beta. If this is the problems they have with anti-spyware, no way will I trust my system to be on-line with the kind of protection that beta will start out with. Besides I just ordered my upgrade to SystemSuite 6 from SystemSuite 5. It comes with the new Trend anti-spyware software. I know it will work well along with the firewall (comes with the suite), anti-virus (comes with the suite), as well as Adaware, Spybot, Counterspy and my old standby of WinPatrol (even Scotty hates cookies and eats cookies ). If you want the what was rated last year as the "Best Buy" by PC Mag. the goto www.v-com.com and order the new SystemSuite 6. I have used SystemSuite for the last 5 years now without any problems ( yes even when owned by OnTrack).

I had exactly the same problem. I thought it was
something wrong with my computer until I started reading
notices in this forum. It also would not let me open my
Quicken program. I have done clean uninstalls on several
programs and nothing helped until I did a super clean
uninstall of MSAS. Then I got an error notice because it
took a file with it that was shared with another program
I guess. Anyway, have things running smoothly now, and I
will NOT download the Beta again. I will wait till all
the smart tech people get things figured out and will try
again when the bugs are gone. It was good to read that
someone else was having the same problem with AdAware and
virus updates also. I was beginning to feel like a
computer "idiot"!

I have done some more research on my "problems with MSAS" over the weekend.
I found after removing MSAS I also lost my entire Host file. (not a problem
as I make a back-up of it each time I add to it). The shutting down of
up-dates from Ad-AwareSE seems to be caused by MSAS blocking access to the
up-date site. Using MSAS 614 without def. updates allows Ad-AwareSE updates.
It also has no problems working with my anti-virus or firewall. Removing
MSAS 614 and installing MSAS 615, without updating the def file, causes no
problems. But go on-line and do a manual update to 615's def files (still
only was able to get 5735) I once again was unable to connect to Lavasoft's
server. Checking the packets set to Lavasoft shows nothing sent. It appears
that their server has been "black-listed" by MS. I also found the anti-virus
and firewall (both included in SystemSuite 5 (V-Com)) are unable to start
during bootup is because of being blocked by MSAS 165's "protection". Seems
that MSAS 615 decided that the 2 exe files for SystemSuite 5, were spyware
trying to launch and shut them down ( shown by booting up with a log
running ). At least MS can say they can stop execution of software, even the
good ones. Even if this is just a bug in the 5735 def files, I have decided
not to install MSAS again. Sometime in the next day or so I will be
receiving in the mail, my new SystemSuite 6 Pro (just released). It has a
very well rated spyware scanner included. I will be giving it a spin this
week and putting it through its paces to see how well it works.

A pretty young lady was having a tooth pulled.
The dentist gave her the usual "this won't hurt a bit" routine before
bending over her with a drill in his hand.
He immediately drew back in complete alarm.
"Miss," he said in a barely audible whisper, "you have hold of my
testicles!"
"Yes, doc, I know," she smiled, "and we aren't going to hurt each other, are
we?"
