Looping Startup

Hi! My computer has recently developed a problem with starting up.
turn it on, the eMachines logo flashes as normal, but then it comes u
to a black-and-white screen saying that Windows failed to star
successfully. It gives the options of starting in safe mode, the las
working configuration, or normal XP. None of these work; when in saf
mode, it always pauses on windows/system32/drivers/mup.sys, and loop
back to the failed-start screen. When with the last known configuratio
and normal XP startup it will load for about thirty seconds, then th
green bar will pause and start going again several times. The compute
is an eMachines and is about three years old. It has never given m
real problems like this before. I would greatly appreciate help. Thank
very much

select recovery,press enter for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its
thru, type:EXIT Let xp start-up,or if you catch it re-enter BIOS select C: as

Hi!

Have now been facing the same type problem. So far not resolving it, but
will
go on checking ...

The problem is not on mup.sys itself, but on some driver loaded in a second
or two after that ... Hard to say how to find/recognize the real problem
point,
maybe backing with some update, or detaching some components and rebooting,
or checking possible Stop Error details, or doing some other troubleshooting
etc.,
and as a last hope action try to Repair install the Windows with a full
licence Retail CD.

Best regards,
