Long Win XP PRO Start Time

N

Neil

Hi All,

I have recently noticed that once I have booted into WIN XP Pro (workgrouped
with others)
it takes up to three minutes for the PC to connect through ICS to the 'Net
(this PC is an ICS client)
and for Windows Explorer to 'find' all of the local drives in the PC and
mapped workgroup drives.

I have also noticed that the 'local area connection' icon does not appear in
the system tray until
after this delay.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this long start (not boot) delay ?

Thanks...

Hi Neil,

By default, Windows XP does not wait for the network to be fully
initialized at startup and logon.

Let's do the following steps to let the system waits for the network at the
startup and logon.

1. Click Start > Run and input gpedit.msc
2. Go to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings
Administrative Templates > System > Logon
3. Double click the "Always wait for the network at computer startup and
logon"
4. Select Enable. You can get the Explain of the option in the Explain tab
5. Click OK
6. Restart the computer

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Steven Liu [MSFT]
