Long load times for IE 6

Generically, what causes long load time for the browser to fully open?

Everytime I open IE it takes 10-15 seconds for it to finish loading before I
can type in a URL or do a Google/Yahoo Companion toolbat search etc...

I've cleaned out the cache, cleaned out the cookies, run all my sweepers etc
and it still takes very long for the browser to fully load...

Any comments?

pls cc: connarchATyahoo.com thx

Try scanning the machine with Ad-Aware, while running in Safe Mode. Spyware
can be VERY hard to remove and can significantly reduce system performance
and IE performance. Additionally, if you haven't already given it a test
spin, Mozilla Firefox is a good browser, if IE cannot be fixed.

I had the same problem, and there were numerous posts here from other
people, and a majority of us experienced the problem after updating
Java to version 6. We went back to version 5 and it corrected the
problem. FWIW

I have the same problem. How do you tell what version is on my system
and if I have version 6 where can I get version 5?

Control Panel, Java, About. The version will be 1.5.0 , but check that
the build is 5. I googled for 5, but can't remember where I found
it.

Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
I am assuming that it is build 5, right?
Thanks for your help

Mine says 1.5.0_05-b05 Notice no -06 in mine. Also, -06 put a bho in
my IE, Tools, Manage Add-ons, some thing like ssvt.dll. When I removed
that, things speeded up again, but then I was not able to access some
java sites, so I just put version -065 back, and all is fine now

what I did, was go to control panel, add/remove programs, and found the java
update 6 listed. I just clicked "remove" and it reverted back to version 5.
thanks again.
Jim.

HI,
I could not do that because I deleted update 5 before I installed
update 6. Yours was still on your system. You lucked out.
Take care,
Bob
