Logon Screen - 89 emails waiting

R

RFJ

I'm running XPPro fully up to date with SP's.,etc.

I renistalled Outlook 2002 and whenever I now get to the logon screen it
always shows I have 89 emails waiting.

If I go into outlook I have just one email waiting. There are no other pst
files on the pc and there is only one profile. There is nothing in OL
Express.

Any ideas on how to get an accurate number (or switch the thing off)

TIA

Hi

You can get rid of that message:

Download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and
when installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go
to Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail message can be disabled via the Registry -
navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress]
- double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change
the value to 0(Zero).

If Outlook or OE is set to leave the emails on the server, that could
cause that error. You've deleted them from your machine, but they're
still available on the server. You can use webmail with some isp's to
look at what's on the server and manage from there.

Or, set the mail account server options to remove them from the server
after downloading.

Once when I logged into one of my old email accounts with tons of spam in it,
the same thing happened to me. After awhile it went back to the regular
amount.
