Logon issue

machinename\username is normal when using IIS, as is IPaddress\username or
localhost\username if using localhost.

As I said earlier, I have *NEVER* been able to open a server based
FrontPage site without a non-empty password, whether on my local PC or on a
server (and I spent several days trying to solve that problem, once before
I noticed the lack of password.)

Can't help with permissions, since I don't have IIS running on my machine.

I'm assuming FP uses the currently logged on user's name & PW. I don't know how
Windows treats a non-visible (ie ENTER) PW.
I suppose I could try to assign myself a PW, but I *REALLY* don't want to have to log
onto the box when I start.

Do you know if FP uses permissions set in the IIS console, or from Windows Explorer,
or if they're the same?

Which user should have the permissions?

FrontPage uses the userid and password configured in the FrontPage
extensions - this is often a normal user account on the PC, but could be an
account set up in FrontPage.

On webs on one of my servers there are permissions for:

Users - Read and Execute
Administrators - full control
Creator Owner - full control
Interactive - read
Network - Read and Execute
System - Full Control

On my other server the permissions additionally include the
IUSR_machinename account, with Full Control.
I always thought a web should have permissions for the IUSR_machinename
account, but not full control.

Both servers are running FrontPage extensions without problems, including
writing form data which requires the IUSR_machinename account to have write
permissions on the folder involved.

IIS modifies the file system permissions as required.

How is the account set up in FP (2002)?

Same, except I don't have Interactive and Network users.

Me too.

Automagically, or is that something I need to do?

I also looked at the Server Extensions Manager snapin. The only thing it offers is an
option to manage permissions manually, but no info on how.

Either with the server extensions configuration - adding users , or the
Tools->Server menu in FrontPage with the website open.

Same, except I don't have Interactive and Network users.

Use the IIS management snap in, or FP extensions configuration.

Either web site properties (to set up for anonymous browsing and/or listing
files in folders where there is no default page, or right click on a
folder.
