Logo Testing??

What is this message that appears when i install drivers
for an external usb device that says "this product has not
passed microsoft logo testing."? i ignored it and
installed anyway, and no damage has occured yet. Why does
this message appear?

It's good thing, but not required. It also takes awhile to do, so many
drivers are released before they have been certified by Microsoft. Basically
it attempt to ensure that Logo'd drivers are compatible with the conforming
systems.
