logo screen locks at bootup

Have a winxp sp1 where it boots up past the loading windows screen then sets
up to load the desktop with the little windows xp logo in the corner. It
freezes at thiis point , even in safe mode or boot to command prompt. Our
only option at this point is to reinstall. Any other options??

Start disconnecting new devices (especially USB) from your system. In fact,
I'd disconnect everything external except the mouse and keyboard.

Reconnect one device at a time, and reboot between each connection. The one
that locks up your system is the culprit.

If this isn't your problem, you may have a problem with heat or RAM modules.

Don't change the disk format during the install to recover your old files.
