logitech cordless mouse does not connect

hi,
today i bought a brand new logitech cordless mouse. unfortunately after i
connected the mouse at usb port nothing happens. my os (windows xp -
professional) doesn't recognize that there was a new device (usb receiver)
connected to the pc. so i tried to get the mouse to work on the ps/2 pot,
but even there is no way to make it work.
As some of you may thing the mouse is simply broke, so did I, but it isn't.
I tried to connect it on another system (also windows xp pro) and it worked
fine.
I don't know what to do now... my usb port work fine too, i connected
several other devices (e.g. printer, webcam, etc...) and all devices where
recognized...
Hope somebody can help me.

Have you run the SETUP from the CD first?

Do you see anything odd in your Device Mangler?

Have you tried all the USB ports on the computer?
