logitech cordless mouse problem

Sure would appreciate some help with a Logitech M700 cordless mouse problem.
The drag function does not work about 80% of the time. When the button is
pressed and moved to a new location. the pointer just jumps to the new
location but fails to highlight the area. I have reloaded the mouse software
and have tried different settings but nothing has helped. I need to get some
work done in Excel but can't without this function.

If anyone has some ideas, I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Ted

Uninstall the mouse software and see if it works using the
default windows mouse driver. If it doesn't, it's doubtful
any mouse driver will help. If it does work then, try
another mouse driver, like a newer version of mouseware if
you weren't using the newest one already.

I am using a MX700 with the default MS Windows driver. Never
even installed the Logitech supplied CD. The "drag" function
works fine for me.

I could be completely off base here, but what are you using as a mousepad?
It doesn't happen to be a woodgrain desk, does it?

I've been using my MX700 with Logitech drivers and on an antique woodgrain
desk for 18m and have never had this problem.

The only thing I found was that the batteries ran low when my kids played
games for hours on end (obviously), so I upgraded them to 2300mah. When they
ran low, I noticed the accuracy dropped.

I also chose the highest dpi resolution in the properties, as I use
Photoshop pro which requires some very intricate and accurate mouse work,
again with no problems.

Maybe try "upping" the scanning resolution? Are you connecting via PS/2
adapter or USB? This may affect it.

There is one option in the Logitech device setup, under "motion", which is
the "Smart Move option" (Causes the cursor to jump to the highlighted button
of a new dialog box) - Have you double checked this is disabled?

Just some thoughts.

Nik.

Assuming you are using XP...
Aren't there some 'Accessibility Options' that mess with the mouse
functionality? Just to be sure go into Control Panel/Accessibility Options
and uncheck everything. Also, while you're in Control Panel check out the
mouse properties under Printers and other Hardware/Mouse.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and ideas. So far, nothing has worked.
Perhaps a little more information my help. The mouse has been in use for
about three years on a Dell P4 2.8 gig with 1 gig of memory and running XP
Pro. It is used on a mouse pad but the surface doesn't make any difference
with this problem. The batteries are good. The mouse options as well as the
'Accessibility Options' are the same as always and I have tried different
settings to no avail. The drivers have been unloaded and reloaded, no
change.

Now the sad part that I hate to admit. This happened once before about a
year or so ago. I did something that corrected the problem but for the life
of me I can't remember what I did. I'm old and anything over two days old in
memory is now deleted, so don't be harsh with me.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Uninstall the Logitech software. (Might want to download the latest from
Logitechs website)

Go into Device Manager and delete the Mouse... You might find entries in HID
as well.

Shut down. Unplug the USB cable and plug into a different USB port. Power
up...

Once the mouse is detected, it should be OK. After that, install the
logitech software (if you like).

I have an older logitech cordless mouse of some type on which the left
mouse button contact switch is failing such that I have to press
directly on the end to make it drag. Click is OK, but drag is difficult
if not mostly impossible. It is also possible to get something (pizza?)
under the tip of the mouse buttons that might prevent anything except
momentary contact.

I can't predict what anyone is going to have sitting on
their mouse pad besides a mouse (or pizza), but commonly the
left button just wears out first and can be replaced (about
2 minutes to solder in a new one) or whole mouse replaced-
or of course if the mouse is under warranty still there is
another obvious solution.

I have a Logitec cordless MX Duo (KB and Mouse)

I had trouble with windows xp pro drivers. I uninstalled them and used the
Logitec CD that came with it. That worked fine. Then I went to the Logitec
site and downloaded the latest drivers.

All works fine. Just did it 2 days ago.
