Login: User Accounts

I want to set up my XP Pro system so that when it poers up it logs into an
account as a restricted user. I do not want them ot be able to change any
crucial elements of the system. I do not want the Welcome screen to be
displayed it should go straight to the Desktop screen.

However, I do want to have another Administrator account that is password
protected. On boot up I want to be able to get into the Administrator account
if needed to do system maintenance.

Is this possible - if so how would I set it up?

Thanks, B

If you go to 'run' and type in:

control userpasswords2

it will bring up the user accounts window here you just untick the box
titled 'Users must enter a user name and password........' , click apply and
it will then ask you to enter the user account you wish to login straight.
Fill in the info and reboot.

As for the logging in as Admin, just log off the restricted account and the
press 'CTRL-ALT-DELETE' two times and it should bring up the login window.

Once you have your accounts set up, here are two options you
can use to log on the limited user automatically.

1. Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is
available here.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Direct Download of TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs ->
Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI.
Click the + sign next to Logon in the left hand column.
Click on Autologon.
In the right hand pane, put a check mark in the box next to
"Logon automatically at system startup".
Enter the name of your user account in the User Name box.
Hit the Set Password button and enter your password twice.
Note: You should skip this step if your account has a blank
password.
Click OK to close TweakUI.
Restart your computer to see if you get the desired results.

2. Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on the account you
want to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

Configure Windows XP to Automatically Login

To logon with another account at startup, hold down the shift
key as the computer starts up. This should display the Welcome
Screen where you can select to log on with the account that is
a computer administrator.

Good luck
