Unusual/Hidden User Accounts

R

Robert

I recently discovered an unusual new user account in Control Panel\User
Accounts after a Windows Update. Its named "ASP.NET Machine A...", and has
full Administrator privileges. Where did this user come from? It doesn't
appear in the Windows Login screen. But, if its a system account, why is it
not hidden in Control Panel? And, how do I hide it?

I also notice that when I log into Safe Mode as an Administrator, I see a
profile for ASP.NET Machine A..., as well two other profiles I don't
recognize: one for Help Assistant, and one for Support_388945a0, neither of
which I recognize. They don't show up in Documents and Settings when logged
in normally. What are these additional account profiles and are they supposed
to be there?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on these matters,

I think that get's installed with either Visual Studio.NET or .NET
Framework 2.0 or 3.0. Most likely 3.0. It's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your response. The image of the Control Panel \ User Accounts
screen in which you provided and the text description indicate that this .NET
account is a Limited account. However, mine installed as an Administrator
account! I've since downgraded it to Limited. But, should I be worried? And,
since this is a Special Account, why is not hidden in Control Panel? Is there
a way to make it hidden?

Thanks John! I don't do ASP work and only downloaded it as part of my routine
Windows Update maintenance because I know they always included it in our
enterprise image at work. But, based on your comments and those of the links
you referred me to, I think I'll just delete it. I assume you're saying it
shouldn't cause me any problems with links I browse that were built using ASP.

Thanks again, and have a nice Thanksgiving!

Yes Kelly, under "Control Panel/User Accounts"; assuming .NET is installed!

(Sorry for the delay in replying. John helped me resolve this issue months
ago and I never came back here again, until now.)
