User accounts disappeared at login

XP SP3.
I fired up the machine today, and my User account has disappeared from the
Welcome screen. The Administrator account has appeared instead. On entering
the password I get:
"Local policies do not allow interactive log-in".
On booting into Safe mode, there are NO users visible at ALL on the welcome
screen.
Anyone seen this before?
Will a repair of XP fix it or is it a full install?
(Thank goodness it's not my main machine!)

Sounds like the computer is infected to me. Have you tried System
Restore yet? Although some malware disables System Restore.

Can't log on!

Hi Gordon! Oh yeah, duh! Sorry, senior moment. How about the Windows
Startup menu where you can select Safe Mode, but select last known
configuration instead? If that doesn't work, a BartPE CD or possibly
other boot discs can fix this problem without doing a repair install.

Tried both those - the Safe Mode shows NO user accounts AT ALL, the "last
known good configuration" just boots up into the welcome screen with the
Administrator account only showing, and not accepting the Admin password!

If that doesn't work, a BartPE CD or possibly
other boot discs can fix this problem without doing a repair install.

I just wiped the lot.......thank goodness it's not my main machine.
Thanks for the input....
