User accounts

I bought a computer for my son. The computer is in workgroup mode. By
default, it generated an Administrator account. I created an account for my
son but the account type must be computer administrator but I would like to
change it to limited user. I have to create one more account, say Admins
and set it to computer administrator. Then I can set my son account to
limited user.

My question is why I need three accounts: one limited user account and two
computer administrators but not one administator and one limited user
account?

During system boot-up, it stops a logon screen and I have to select either
Admins or My son account before completing the boot-up. Where is the
Administrator account? How can I skip the logon screen and logon on my son
account direct.

Your guidance is appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

What operating system - Windows XP Home, Professional, Media Center, etc...?

As for automatic logon - Google for TweakUI from Microsoft, download it,
setup the automatic logon. That's te easiest for 'new' users.

In Windows XP, if you have Administrator as default login account, when you
will create a new account then it will be automatically assigned
administrator as type not limited. Now, if you will create one more new
account then you will be able to set it as Limited and after that your
default Administrator account will disappear from the screen for Security
reasons. In your case same has happened.

To display the default Adminisrtator account on Welcome screen here is the
link:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_admin_ok.htm

I will suggest you to first run the above script and make administrator
available on Welcome screen. Then login in to that account and move your all
data to a folder which should accessable from other user accounts too like
D:\My Data.

Now, (If you have already done that then skip this step) create one account
as Administrator and another Limited for your son.

After backing up your data run the above script again and disable the
Administrator account from login screen. Now, you will have 2 accounts on
Welcome screen. Login to the administrator account you created.

1. Click Start - Run - type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 and press Enter.
2. Make a check mark on "User Must Enter a User Name and Password to use
this computer, if not already checked.
3. Now, select the user you want to auto login with and uncheck the option.
4. You will be prompted for a password. Leave blank if there is no password.
5. Restart your PC.

Hope this help, let us know!
