Hi,

Everyone know that in Windows XP you have the option to have a more secure
login to windows by entering the Username and Password. Where is this in
Windows Vista.

Thanks,
SAB

Same place....

Start > control userpasswords2
Look for the check box

Hi Jon,

Thanks very much for your reply. I couldn't find userpasswords2, I went to
Start then there is a Control Panel and others, but not Control alone. Where
can I find this userpasswords2.

SAB

Type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotation marks) directly into
the Start/search box and hit Enter.

Hi SAB

Unfortunately, I don't think you can get to that dialog box via Control
Panel.

Click the start button orb down the lower left and then type the command
'control userpasswords2' (without the quotes) i the search box, and then
hit enter. A dialog box with the title 'User Accounts' should then pop up.

Thanks for all..

I tried that but its not the one I was looking for. My problem is that I
want to login as administrator not user/administrator, this is why I was
looking for that box to enter the user name I prefer and enter the password
for that particular user. In Windows XP we had this feature but I can't find
it in Vista. At time of installation we have to give a user name which I
did, and then during the booting it shows that user not the administrator
and can't find a way to login as administrator.

Appreciate your help..

The 'Administrator' account is now disabled by default. You have to actively
enable it to be able to login using the account.

If you open up an elevated command prompt, [Start > type in the word 'cmd'
(less quotes)> [hold down ctrl and shift and then press enter]], you can
then activate it using this command

net user administrator /active:yes

It should then appear on the login screen along with the other accounts.

Jon, thank you for your help.

I have tried as suggested but I got the following message:

System Error 5 has occurred
Access is Denied

Any suggestion to solve this issue.

Best Regards,
SAB

Hi SAB

The command needs to be run from an elevated (ie an 'Administrator') command
prompt, otherwise you'll get that error.

After typing 'cmd' in the search box, you need to hold down ctrl + shift
before pressing enter.
Alternatively right-click a shortcut to 'cmd.exe' and choose 'Run as
administrator'

Then retry the command.
