Login problem after dskchk

Hello. My computer has been running fine for a very long time. I restarted
it yesterday and received the disk consistency check error message, so I let
it do its thing. After the restart, I was unable to login with my normal
userid or the administrator account. I receive the error message "The system
cannot log you on now because the domain melvin is not available." Melvin is
the name of the computer. I am using Windows XP SP2 and I have never
connected it to a domain. I have rechecked the drive with dskchk and it
finds no errors. I can access the drive fine when I boot with Windows PE.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Your acct might be corrupt. Set up a new one and try again. You did run
CHKDSK /R to look for & fix any disk errors, didn't you?

Yes, I have checked the disk with chkdsk -r, however, I cannot login with
any account in any mode and therefor I do not know how to create an new
account without being able to login first. If you know how to create an
account without logging in first please let me know. Thanks for your help.
