cannot do dskchk or defrag

I haven't defragged my pc in a while, and thought it was time to do so. But
when i opened the defrag utility, a message popped up saying it couldnt run
because dskchk /f was scheduled to run.

So i went to "run" and typed in "dskchk /f" and when i restarted the
computer, nothing happened.

I went to My Computer, C drive, and hit "properties" and "tools" and went to
scan manually, and after it did phase one, i got a message saying "Windows
was not able to complete the disk check".

So now I cant run dskchk, i cant defrag. I'm at a loss at how to correct
these problems. Any help would be appreciated. You can also email me at

Try going to run, type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK This is "read only mode",if
it completes type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,restart computer,if it wont
complete, type:Sfc /Scannow When the bar graph starts, insert xp cd,exit the
info page.When its thru,type:EXIT Restart computer,back on desktop,run
disk clean-up utility in tools,then re-open cmd,type:Defrag C: When its
done retry CHKDSK C: /F If it hasnt run before.
