windows xp media, unable to defrag.

when I try to defrag or analyze I get "Disk Defragmenter has detected that
Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C. Please run Chkdsk /f. I run
chkdsk and have to restart my computer but this does not allow me to run
defrag. always the same message. Any help or solutions please? PB

Did you type the /f?
