hello,

i need help with a problem that i already fixed before on another computer
(if i remember correctly i had to use regedit or to download a .reg file).

the problem accures when i try to add user:password to url (example:
http://user:[email protected]). if i'm trying to login manualy (open the main
website's page and then enter usename and password in the boxes and click
login) it works.

how can this problem be solved?

Thanks in advance;

Hi Don,

Thank you for your reply.

I tried to add a registry key "FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE" with
two dword values (iexplorer.exe and explorer - both set to 0) in
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl"
as described in the article, and i still get the same error.

It looks like the browser doenst even try to resolve the url when it shows
the message (i dont see any activity on the network, and the page is
displayed instantly), and as i said before i get the same error on any url
with username:password@ (for example microsoft.com works well and
http://bla:[email protected] give error).

I checked my hosts file in system32\drivers\etc which contains only one
value as it should - 127.0.0.1 localhost , and i tried to rescan my
system for spyware and junks using spybot and hijackthis, both didnt detect
anything.

As i said earlier - i once had this problem on this computer (recently i had
to reinstall windows) and then i found the solution in a forum (i saw several
posts regarding this issue), it should be something simple.

Am i doing something wrong ?

Thanks;
S.P.

I made this same change, only under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and it works just
fine. You have to spell the value names correctly, though. They're
explorer.exe and iexplore.exe. The latter has only one "r".
