Logging on to windows xp

I am having a problem logging on to windows xp.I get a
error message, explore.exe unable to locate component
SHDOCVW.dll, and will not let me log on. Your help will be
greatly appreciated.

From the Safe Mode try to run the System File Checker with the command
SFC /scannow
(via Start > Run).
