Logging on - Shows mail unread

When I am on my initial screen where I pick the user. It
tells me that I have 44 unread new messages. I enfact
have NONE. How can I make this go away???
 
Is this machine at service pack 1 ?
There was such an issue fixed long ago with SP1.
