logging in as administrator

How do I log in as Administrator. I set up my new PC a couple months ago. I
have user accounts for myself and each member of our family. It's worked fine
and I've loaded a variety of softwares. I just tried to load software from a
CD and it tells me that I don't have administrator privileges. Since I'm the
one who set everything up, I must be the administrator. How do I log on as
the administrator and not simply as me?

If you're running XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator
account is only available in Safe Mode. To start in Safe Mode,
reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Once you've logged on with the Administrator account, see if
you're able to install the software. There's a chance that
you'll be told that you can't install the program in Safe Mode.
If that's the case, see if you can perform other administrative
duties. Try creating a new user account . If your able to do
this while logged in as the Administrator it may be an
indication that your user account has somehow been corrupted.

Either of these procedures will allow you to copy the files
from the old user account into a new user account.

Keep in mind that you'll need to logon at least once with the
new account before you can copy files from the old account into
the new account. Also, you'll need to use a third account which
is a computer administrator. The built-in Administrator account
can be used in Safe Mode on a Windows XP Home Edition system.

Once you've got the new account set up you'll need to import
your email files. You might be able to use the File and
Settings Transfer wizard to do this. Use the option to transfer
settings only.

Good luck
