Installing apps as administrator

Hi there. Our company is mostly running Windows 9x, and
we're just starting to bring in XP Pro. We install
software on the XP desktops as administrators, but
sometimes users can't access those applications once they
log in as themselves. How can we allow users to log in as
themselves and still access the programs we installed as
administrators, without assigning them administrator
privileges on the local machine?

Thanks.

That depends on what you mean by can't access. If the problem is
related to access to the shortcuts, then you need to copy the desktop
shortcuts and start menu shortcuts from the administrators profile to
the All Users profile. Some applications don't run correctly when
launched by a restricted user. In most cases you can fix that by
adjusting the security permissions on the registry keys or folders that
they are trying to write to. To find out which registry keys are
affected you can use regmon to monitor the registry. http://www.

What you can do is create an account with admin privileges. you do all your
installs and settings from this account. once you have completed this you
log off and log back in as administrator and copy the contents of the users
folder into the default users folder. now every one that logs in after will
get the setting that you have set up.
this will not give them elevated privileges but will allow them to run the
apps as you have them setup.
