log in when installed XP?!?!

Just bought a new hard drive for my laptop, loaded on my XP and got right
through it all eventually, created my user name when going through the very
end of the install but when I get to the log on screen for the first time its
asking for a password WHICH I DID NOT install!!!!
Any ideas or is it a complete reinstall?
This is driving me bonkers!
Any help appreciated!

THE SYSTEM CANNOT JOG YOU ON DUE TO THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM:
THE SPECIFIC DOMAIN EITHER DOES NOT EXIST OR COULD NOT BE CONTACTED
PLEASE TRY AGAIN OR CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
