Locked up during POST

All of a sudden when I turned on the computer it locked up on the process
"verifying DMI Pool Data". Repeated attempts to boot give the same result.
Am I reduced to reinstalling XP?

Well - considering you should be getting that error before any attempt to
load the OS usually occirs - not only should that not help in most cases, it
would be difficult.

Did you look through the various reasonings/solutions on the Internet?
