Locked somehow

A coworker was working on a worksheet in excel when she accidentally held
down a key too long and something came up about the filter and she clicked
cancel. Ever since that point, it you try to click on another cell besides
the one it is on, it will just highlight all of the ones in between and wont
let you type certain things into that one cell, nor can you scroll anywhere
or pull up another sheet in that file. What can I do to fix this problem so
that it is back to normal?

Sounds like she is in EXTEND mode - try pressing F* to toggle out of that mode.

F8 - Turn extend mode on or off. In extend mode, EXT appears in the status line, and the arrow keys
extend the selection.

Do you see EXT on the status bar?

Hit F8 to cancel that "extended mode"
