Can anyone tell me what a lock icon means and how it appeared and how to
remove them? They appeared as part of all of the internet connection icons
in the network connections folder.
I have windows xp home edition on my computer

The lock icon on a network connection means that the Windows Firewall
is turned on and is protecting the connection from undesired access by
hackers on the Internet.

You can turn the Windows Firewall off in Control Panel > Windows
Firewall.

However, every Internet connection needs firewall protection. If you
don't have another firewall program (e.g. Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm)
or a hardware firewall (e.g. a broadband router), leave the Windows
Firewall turned on.
