...local area connection??

I just installed windows xp 2 and in the process of connecting my DSL I now
have something called "local area connection" that insists on starting up
automatically... but has a yellow exclamation point on it in the tray. It
never finds a connection. I connect to my DSL using my SBC DSL connection
that I created. The problem is.... if I try to disconnect, ot disable the
"local area connection" it keeps my SBC-DSL connection from functioning (
both seem to need to be on ).. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Every active ethernet connection on an XP machine will have a corresponding
Local Area Connection.

Not familiar with SBC, but try assigning an arbitrary IP to the Local Area
Connection - eg. 192.168.1.10.
