SBC Global DSL, and LAN

W. Watson

I very recently, last 2 days, obtained DSL through SBC/AT&T. I've got DSL
working with two computers in the house hooked to their gateway
modem/hub/wirless device. They are both direct connects with an ethernet
cable between the PCs and the gateway device. My PC had been hooked to a LAN
that goes to a PC in the garage. The connection was a straight run cable
from this PC to the garage. I used specific addresses. I couldn't get to
DSL, and a SBC tech said I'd have to use DHCP for my connection to do it.
Changing it solve the problem. Fine. Now about the LAN.

I'd like to get the machine in the garage on the (2 PC) LAN. I figured I
could just use DHCP for it to, and plug in the cable from it to the gateway.
That doesn't seem to work. I just did an ipconfig (no arg) and got this:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.68
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Who belongs to the IP address above? How do I get the IP addresses of my
machine and the one in the garage? Perhaps pinging them might help. What am
I missing here?

Hi
It is not clear what is you current status.
First make sure that both computers are capable to surf the Internet.
Then configure each computer's File Sharing, and you would have a LAN
capacity too.
Successful Sharing involves some specific adjustment of each computer
according to what is allowed to be shared.

As well as few general consideration in Network settings,
