Configuring IP address

S

SANTANDER

I installed a uTorrent client in one of office PC. uTorrent client need open
port for incoming connections, so I need open specific port in Fritz!Box
ADSL router for this uTorrent.
Do I need first set static IP address (local IP) in my PC? There is a few
PCs (small LAN) at work that connected to internet via this ADSL router.
We have static outside IP address(WAN address). LAN computers have addresses
assigned by using DHCP.
Configuration is following:

C:\Documents and Settings\User>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : UserName

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XXX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX

Do I need set static local IP address for this PC where utorrent client
installed?
As I know, not all routers require to set static IP address in computer, but
Fritz!Box model require as I heard.

Thanks.

Hi
When you open a port toward the LAN computer you open it towards its local
addressed (192.168.x.x).
If this address can be changed when the system or the Router boots you have
to assign to this computer a static IP that is out of the DHCP range.
Some Routers can be configured to maintain the same IP to the same computer
through the DHCP, if your Router can do it, you do not need a Static IP.
