Does anyone know how to remove this icon from within the
notification area of taskbar? I assume it tries to check
for this connection at Windows startup, it says, "A
Network Cable is Unplugged".

If I'm reading you correctly, you have a NIC (Network Interface Card) installed in you computer but are not connected to a network. If that is the case, the way to get rid of the notification icon is to go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager and disable the card. Don't forget you did that if you ever do need to network the computer.
