Loading Windows XP

I have a computer(not hooked up to the internet) that has Windows NT on it.
My husband has Windows XP on his computer. So I tried to load Windows XP on
mine but it had a message that I needed a Service Pack 4 or 6? on it. What
does this mean and how to I go about getting it?

I am assuming you mean you tried to upgrade your NT system with XP?

NT was up through SP6 the last time I used it, and probably needs these
updates in order to complete an upgrade to XP.

So...you have a couple of options. (1) Set up the NT system and go to
Microsofts update site and download the SP for your NT system, then perform
the upgrade, or (2) Do a clean install of XP from a formatted C drive. You
should have that as an option on your system when performing the upgrade.

On another point, these are two separate software licenses correct? Yoy are
not trying to use the same software on both systems I hope ;-)

Chances are that an NT4 class comp would not do well trying to run XP.
Sp6a was the latest and greatest NT4 service pack, check if you have 64
ot 128 bit encryption before downloading the appropriate SP from
Microsoft's site.
