Loaded XP and DVD stopped working

Some time ago, I loaded XP and my DVD drive stopped working and I never got
around to fixing it. Well, I need it now. Does anyone have any ideas why a
DVD would stop working when XP was loaded?

Thanks,

Roger

What do you mean by 'stopped working'?
That could be so many things.

What do you mean loaded, if you mean installed, what did you have previously?
VISTA ?
What kind of interface does the DVD require SATA or PATA?
What do you mean stopped working? doesn't play a DVD nor CD or just won't
read anything?

if just DVD then you need to know XP doesn't read DVD's natively, you need a
third party piece of software to read/play DVD's CD's are ok.

Please post a smart message with details enough to get a decent answer.

Try booting from the DVD...
if you can't boot from it and it does not work from within the OS...
then it simply has failed...or there is a cable problem

OTOH, if you can boot from it
but it does not work from within the OS...there may be a hardware
conflict...
check in device manager
