Links to websites aren't working in Windows mail

D

Don Sepanski

For some reason, links to websites have stopped working in Windows Mail. As
far as I can determine, mail is not reporting these as phishing emails.
Also, I can't open links in any emails, not just some. The web address of
the link shows up in the information bar of the email message, but it will
not open Explorer anymore to open the link.

I run Windows Vista. I'm up to date on all the various updates.

Thanks,
Don Sepanski

Go to Control Panel | Default Programs | Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then page down to the protocols and find the HTTP (and HTTPS) and set that to IE and then see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the tip Steve.

Actually, somehow Windows Mail began opening website links again.

Don't know what happened to have Mail stop opening the links, and don't know
what happened that Mail again opens links. But there was a period of
numerous days when Mail wouldn't open any links.

I did go to the Start | Default Programs | Associate a file type, but there
was no entry at all for either http or https. Is this something I really
should have?

Could this be the reason I always get a dialog box asking if I want to open
a web page even if it will display only the secure items?

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,

You need to page all the way down past the file types until you get to the Protocols and you should see HTTP and HTTPS there.

The dialog box you get is from IE and can be changed in the Options.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I hadn't gone far enough down in the list to the Protocols. But when I
got to them, HTTP & HTTPS were already associated with IE.

But as I had mentioned in my previous email, for some unknown reason,
Windows Mail is opening the website links again. I guess my problem somehow
solved itself, because I didn't do anything that I know of to either have
them stop opening, or get them to begin opening again.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Don
