I've noticed over the past week or so that links or
sometimes entire folders of links are disappearing from
my favorites. I'm using I.E. 6, SP1, with all current
security patches installed. Can anyone suggest a way to
recover them? Or better yet, to stop this from happening
again?

Cindy, my Internet explorer is doing the same thing. Can anyonge help? I am not going to pay MS any money to find out!!

Eric,

It's likely what's called 'folder redirection' that's caused your Favorites
to go missing.

Start by trying to locate your Favorites in your profile:

C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Favorites

If your Favorites are there, but when you click the Favorites button in
Internet Explorer you can't see them that is because the file path to your
folder has been redirected somewhere else.

To correct it you'll need to modify a couple keys in the registry.

Click START>Run>type 'regedit' and press Enter key.

In the left pane, expand
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Now check the file path--make sure it set to the correct location.

Do the same for this registry key too:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

Todd, thanks for the reply, but i still have some questions. first, where do i find the C:\documents and settings\%userprofile%\favorites. and second, when i expand the HKEY, what should the correct location of the file path be. it says something about earthlink, but i don't use that anymore. thanks for your help.
