Links / Display Problems with IE6

Hi,

I started having these problems a couple of weeks back, and now for a
few sites my browser(s) are unusable.

The probs I'm having right now are:

1. Site doesn't display at all, or incorrectly

eg: put in www.hotmail.com in address bar, it changes the url to
this..
http://loginnet.passport.com/login....tw=0&fs=1&fsa=1&fsat=1296000&lc=1033&_lang=EN

it displays the mini status bar at the bottom of the page, it
completes loading and all I get is a blank page

www.pgatour.com

I get a lot of code (looks like Java) displaying on the left, and if I
click on the leaderboard I just get a blank area where the leaderboard
should be.

Both of these occur in IE6 and Netscape 7.1. I also had Mozilla but
uninstalled it, these problems were occuring there too.

2. Links won't work

eg www.fanfiction.net

Clicking on a hyperlink works ok, but for eg in this site I can't
navigate between chapters in a story,

www.stanjames.com

the drop down lists at the top of the page do not work for me

I'm running a Dell Dimension 8200
Intel Pentium 4 2.0G
768M RAM
Windows XP
IE 6.0.2800
Netscape 7.1
with Norton Personal Firewall & Norton Anti-Virus

What I have done so far:
registered the dll's as per the MS fix 'Can't Open a New Window'
checked my registry settings
checked my file associations
uninstalled & reinstalled IE (as much as XP will let you do that)
disabled anti-virus & personal firewall

Am I missing something. I don't have the XP disks with me (I'm in the
uk, they are back in Oz), is there ANYTHING else I can do that will
fix this bugger of a problem. Many thanks in advance..... also, you
want/need more info from me to diagnose this, please just ask.

Ok - been up all night trying to sort this, and I found it IS
something to do with my Personal Firewall. For some reason it is
affecting the way some pages are displaying and not allowing me to
navigate on others.

Short term solution - disable firewall and downloaded ZoneAlarm. If
anyone else has had this prob with Norton I'd love to know if/how you
fixed it.

Nothing Symantec ever gets within a mile of this PC nowadays but that's a
different story. It sounds to me more like a popup blocker setting or two
than "Firewall" behaviour but from a sales viewpoint I think Norton like to
blend the two functions and really they're quite different. Since I don;t
have the product I can't be specific but can you eliminate the popup
blocking completely and then if that helps work back up through the levels
of options?
