Linked MP3 files don't play in PP7

I am creating a slide show with linked MP3 sound. The MP3 files are stored
in the same folder as the ppt files which I create in PP7 (using save
as...). The resultant slide show with sound works fine when I play it using
PPT viewer on an XP machine but no sound on my Vista machine. Why is this?

How long is the path to the folder? Path including file name should not be
longer than 128 characters (or better: 100, to be on the safe side). This
happens easily in corporate networks. To test whether this is the cause for
the problem, move presentation and sound file to a folder C:\test.

Additionally: Avoid any special characters and spaces in file names (A-Z,
a-z, 0-9, - and _ are OK).

Best regards,
Ute

Many thanks for the suggestion but when I copy everything to C:\test\pot
files\ there is still no sound. Is there a setting somewhere? Is
PowerPoint 2007 better for running my ppt file (not pptx) or is the
PowerPoint viewer? My XP machine has only got a viewer - not PowerPoint but
the sound is OK

Long shot but Slide Show > Set Up Show > Show without Animation kills sound
too.

It's not a bug, it's a feature ;-)

"Playing sound" is a kind of "Specialized animation". Because it's handled
like an animation, you can start sound (and video) with trigger animations.

Best regards,
Ute
